Opera gems

"Music lovers in Cheltenham have been exceptionally lucky recently...Bel Canto Opera has brought us Bizet's hilarious farce, Dr. Miracle, and Bernstein's Trouble in Tahiti...both are absolutely fantastic. Talk about opera for the masses, there should be crowds flocking to see and hear these gems"

THE WILTS. & GLOUCESTERSHIRE STANDARD

Leonard Bernstein’s Trouble in Tahiti was sobering with a look at an ailing marriage. Joan Self as a suburban housewife belted out the numbers and you could catch hints of West side Story. Martin Rutter played her husband with sensitivity. Sets were an exciting black and white, but even they could not cheer up this creaky relationship. Directed by William Bell, it certainly was challenging...a highly professional double bill.
